WFRN Election and Governance History
The Work and Family Researchers Network carries on the legacy of the Sloan Work and Family Research Network, the premier online destination for work and family research from 1997-2010. In November 2010, Jerry A. Jacobs and Judi C. Casey received a final grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation that supported the creation of a new membership and virtual organization.
Judi was WFRN’s Director through 2014 following her tenure as Director of the Sloan Network from 2005-2010. Jerry was WFRN’s Founding President and continues to serve as its Executive Officer. Kathleen Christensen led the Workforce, Workplace and Working Families Program at the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and has served as an Ex-Officio member of WFRN’s Executive Committee since its inception.
The WFRN is organized by a structure of committees and subcommittees governed by elected office holders. Members have the opportunity to fill leadership roles as elected officers or committee members and vote for their peers. Elections for officers occur every two years, and every year an election is held to replace two members of the Executive Committee who rotate off the committee after serving three-year terms. The first election for WFRN officers was held from January 8-20, 2013, and the current slate of officers won their posts in the January 16 – February 2, 2015 election. The most recent election for two Executive Committee members was held from February 17 – March 4, 2016.
Elections are conducted by secret ballot, and the winners are those who receive a plurality of the legal votes cast.
