The Employee Assistance Program: A Story about the Formation and Impact of the Employee Assistance Society of North America ( EASNA)

What follows on these pages is a story – one that is focused yet complex. Like any story, intentions not withstanding, it may not be perfectly accurate or complete but it is worthy of telling. Its focus is on the most honorable effort by employers of the 20^th Century to wed the bottom line with the human treatment of employees and their families having serious mental problems. Starting with those suffering from alcoholism, the effort was broadened to cover a host of issues that could adversely affect an employees’ well-being and their ability to perform on the job. It later became known as the Employee Assistance Program. (EAP).
