Gender, Work and Family in Turbulent Times: COVID-19, Remote Work and Diversity

This WFRN Virtual Conference Series panel session focuses on gender, work and family during and following the COVID-19 pandemic. A special issue of the journal Social Sciences collects 12 original research reports from five countries on gender, work and family during the pandemic. An introductory essay by the editor highlights findings and points toward future research questions. This special issue is an open access publication and can be found here.

The WFRN virtual conference will elicit the insights of the authors of these papers regarding their findings and the evolving post-crisis landscape. Themes include:

  • How did fathers’ contributions to housework and childcare change during and after schools and child-care centers reopened?
  • How did COVID-19 affect other family dynamics, including marital satisfaction, stress and non-residential care?
  • What have we learned about remote work as well as women’s labor force participation during and since the pandemic?
  • What broader pandemic-related questions should we continue to track now that broad interest in COVID-19 is in the rearview mirror?

Authors and co-authors of the collected research articles will share their thoughts on these topics and then engage in a moderated panel discussion. Following the panel discussion, the conversation will open to questions and comments from event participants. This event is free and open to the public.
