ABOUT FAMILIES TACKLING TOUGH TIMES TOGETHER:

Families Tackling Tough Times Together is a Facebook group (https://bit.ly/HHSFamiliesTogether) and community of support helping families to strengthen their resilience while they cope with a multitude of challenges brought forth by the COVID-19 pandemic. Every week, new materials and activities that focus on a specific aspect of resilience will be released. Families with children, youth, young adults, and older adults will find materials tailored for them.  All are welcome; we especially welcome military families. This program is led by Purdue University’s College of Health and Human Sciences with contributions from partners at Purdue and across the country.

FOR SENDING TO FAMILIES TO INVITE THEM TO JOIN:

Are you part of a family dealing with staying at home, social distancing, and other pandemic-related challenges?  Is your home now a school and a workplace in addition to a home?  Do people in your family have tough questions and anxieties that you are not sure how to respond to?  Are you feeling stretched and stressed?  There is a supportive community waiting for you.  Families Tackling Tough Times Together is a public Facebook group for families dealing with the pandemic.  The purpose of the group is to help its members cope with challenges and grow the resilience of their family at the same time.  We welcome families of all shapes and sizes.  We welcome both civilian and military families.

Every week, a kit of information and ideas is posted that families can use through the week to build a specific resilience skill.  All of the activities can be easily carried out as part of daily life and often will provide interesting and even fun opportunities for children, youth, young adults, and older adults.  Each week also includes an idea for contributing to the larger community that builds on the resilience theme for that week.  Group members are encouraged to share their experiences, ask questions, and support each other in their efforts.  Materials can be used in any order and can be re-used anytime.

All materials are informed by scientific evidence about resilience.  The group is administered by scientists in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Purdue University, with help from partners across the country.  Like other families, they are dealing with the pandemic and wanted to use their skills to try to help others.  This Facebook group is the result.

Please join our community.  We want to offer help and support for today’s challenges.  Invite your friends!
