As an organizational inequality scholar, I examine how meso-level institutions – primarily non-profit organizations and universities – construct gendered and racialized experiences of work, care, and opportunity. Across these settings, my research demonstrates how organizational logics, cultural narratives, and evaluative practices shape unequal experiences for women and people of color, whether through the gendering of leadership, the devaluation of diversity-oriented initiatives, or organizational structures that shape workload and burnout. My dissertation brought a novel organizational approach to the study of environmental inequality, using theories from the sociology of work to forge much-needed conversation between environmental sociology and work-family scholarship.
