Dr Pfarelo Matsila is a sociologist specialising in the intersections of work–family life, gender, and health in Southern Africa. Her research examines how caregiving responsibilities, gender norms, and precarity shape the lived experiences of informal sector workers. Using qualitative and intersectional approaches, she explores how men and women negotiate care, livelihoods, and wellbeing within unequal social and economic contexts. Her broader expertise includes gendered health inequalities, SRHR, masculinities, and caregiving. She contributes to global work–family scholarship by centring African perspectives and the dynamics of informal labour and gendered health.
