Dr. Pugh’s research and teaching focuses on how people forge connections and find meaning and dignity at home and at work. Her current research is on the standardization (and automation) of humane interpersonal work like therapy or teaching. Prior research includes the impact of precarious work on intimate relationships, and how class shapes the way parents and children understand childhood spending.
